I have a question about my treatment

How safe is it to come to Benenden Hospital?

We’re continuing to follow Government guidelines and the latest coronavirus advice. You can rest assured that we have the strictest hygiene and infection control measures in place to protect our patients, staff and visitors.

I think I have coronavirus/flu symptoms? Should I still attend my appointment?

Please do not come to the hospital if you’ve developed any of the following symptoms:

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
  • Other flu-like symptoms

Please follow the latest Government advice, which is available at www.gov.uk/coronavirus.

I’ve recently returned from abroad. Can I still attend the hospital for my appointment?

Please follow Government guidance. If your appointment falls within a period of isolation, please contact us to re-arrange.

Will I need to wear a face mask and gloves when I visit the hospital?

If you’re entering the hospital, you’ll need to wear your own face mask or face covering, unless you are exempt (please advise reception if this is the case).

There's no need for you to wear gloves when attending your appointment, as we have hand hygiene stations throughout the hospital for you to use.

Do you have hand sanitiser available?

Hand sanitiser is provided at the main entrance and is situated at the entrance of every department. We request that you use it as you move around the hospital.

What measures do you have in place to ensure social distancing?

We ask all patients to respect the social distancing rules we have in place. Our award-winning Atrium and spacious reception have been specifically reconfigured to allow for social distancing.

Can I bring a friend or relative to the appointment with me?

As per Government guidance, footfall is restricted in healthcare settings. Where possible, you should attend alone. However, if you have an appointment in our Eye Unit or you have additional support needs, you can be accompanied.

What if I arrive early for my appointment?

Access to the hospital is restricted. If you arrive early, please wait in your car until ten minutes before your appointment time.

Can I get refreshments while I’m waiting?

The Pavilion restaurant is open for patients and visitors to purchase a hot or cold drink or a snack and a takeaway service is also available. We ask that you/your visitor don’t wait here for long periods.

Visitors may be asked to wait in their car should the public areas become very busy.

Are there toilet facilities available for the person who has accompanied me?

There are toilet facilities available in the car par park across the road from our main entrance. Access to the main hospital is restricted for visitors, but they will be able to use these facilities if they have additional needs.

Do hospital staff wear PPE?

All staff will be wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment as per the Government guidance.

Do I need to be screened for COVID-19?

If you’re attending the hospital for surgery, you’ll be asked to undergo a PCR screening test for COVID-19, if it’s necessary for the treatment you’re having. This applies even if you’ve been fully vaccinated against coronavirus.

I have been vaccinated; do I still need to self-isolate?

As per Government Guidance for the protection of all patients and our staff, patients are requested to isolate following their COVID-19 test prior to any inpatient stay at the hospital and for some procedures carried out in the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).
